This week, my new mural kicks off at the Fruitvale BART station on my home town Oakland, CA. I’m beyond excited to bring this piece to life in the neighborhood where I grew up! My mural is all about our connection to nature, especially here in Fruitvale, where immigrants from all corners of the world come together. Big thank you to @the_unity_council for commissioning this piece and to the two incredible painters helping me bring my vision to reality @twinwallsmuralcompany and VOGUE TDK. After the election, we’ll still need a massive and united movement to liberate occupied peoples. BIODIVERSITY
Monotype Collage, 2018 Biodiversity is the foundation of all life. This collage is part of a body of work conceived in 2018 during an artist residency at Robert Rauschenberg’s home in Captiva, Florida. The piece depicts Pachamama. In Inca worldview, Pachamama is a fertility goddess who presides over planting and harvesting, embodies the mountains, and causes the earth to move. She is also an independent force who has her own self-sufficient and creative power to sustain life on this earth. The four cosmological Quechua principles – Water, Earth, Sun, and Moon – claim Pachamama as their prime origin.
The Rauschenberg art residency was the most productive and artistically regenerative time I had experienced in my life. The picturesque tropical beach landscapes in Captiva truly expanded my imagination and gifted me the time and space to get lost in my own images and ideas. The environment allowed me to feel relaxed and to forget the urgency of city life, and to delve deep into my creativity. During this time of isolation, I realized how much I value my solitude and my ability to make art. Bob’s spirit was present throughout the compound, and it was an honor to partake in the kingdom he had built for himself. The natural environment - everything from the leaves on the trees, to the ocean waves, to the many different kinds of wildlife on Captiva, - inspired me to take my artistic practice to another level. #artbyfavianna

One of the absolute highlights of Mexico City was reconnecting with two incredible people I hadn’t seen in 8 years—Norma Listman and Saqib Keval, the brilliant founders behind @masalaymaiz ! This restaurant is not just about food—it’s about activism, blending the rich flavors of South Asia, East Africa, and Mexico through a decolonial lens. I am hella proud of @normalistman and @saqibkeval for what they’ve built! Not only have they earned a Michelin star, but they are also fiercely committed to justice. They challenge white supremacy, stand up for workers’ rights, and address the exploitative history that has defined the food industry for far too long. It’s a place where labor, farmers, and purveyors are treated with dignity. 🌱✨ Norma and Saqib’s vision extends far beyond the kitchen—they use food as a powerful tool for environmental and social justice. Through private dinners, cooking classes, and lectures, they are creating a platform for activism and change. And I am so grateful for their courageous voices in speaking up for a Free Palestine! 🇵🇸 I can’t wait to collaborate with them in the future. Feeling so inspired after connecting with Earth protectors, Indigenous leaders, artists from across the globe, and climate justice changemakers in Mexico City! 🌍✨ I had the privilege of participating in a powerful convening focused on comprehensive climate solutions through community building, and it was especially uplifting to build with so many fierce women leading the charge. As an artist activist, I’m grateful for the opportunity to advocate for creatives and ensure we have a strong voice in the climate movement. Honored to represent @culturestrike as we mobilize artists to stand with Mother Earth, resist white supremacy and colonialism, and use our art as a tool for liberation. Building relationships and global solidarity is how we create lasting change, and this experience reminded me of the power we hold when we come together. I am so ready for what’s next! Militarized borders harm humans and wildlife. As presidential candidates compete over who can take a harsher stance on already failed border policy, it’s important to remember that the Earth has no borders, and human migration is as old as time. Thank you @19thnews and @kutzreports for highlighting Latinx creators using art and storytelling to challenge harmful border narratives. The border crisis isn’t just a human rights issue—it’s an environmental disaster that puts both people and the planet at risk. If we’re serious about solving climate change, we must confront the devastation caused by the U.S.-Mexico border. This militarized divide is not only tearing families apart but also destroying vital ecosystems, blocking wildlife migration, and disrupting natural habitats. Sweet moments in Mexico City! I am here for a convening on climate solutions through joy and community, and it feels incredible to be back in the city where I spent a lot of my adolescence. Though my family is from Peru, Mexico City became my sanctuary during the 90s when things were very tough in both Oakland and Peru. Living here during those formative years shaped the artist I am today. Here I have reconnected with and met so many amazing femme artists and cultural workers. I was thrilled to see my friend and storytelling coach, Stephanie, who has been instrumental in helping me tell my womb story, which has been a three-year journey. I also reunited with my fierce friend @shiloshivsuleman , whom I met last month at the Global Artivism conference in South Africa. Shilo inspires me to fully embrace my embodied, sexy, artistic self. I met an amazing South African artist working on womb healing, femme joy, and earth healing - @rharha_nembhard . And also met the niece of my artist mentor, Xochitl Guerrero, who taught me to be an artist when I was just a kid growing up in Oakland. I love taking walks in the parks and admiring all the plants that thrive here. Feeling so grateful for these magical connections that reaffirm my focus on pleasure activism and womb healing! #CDMX

All eyes on Northern Gaza!

Community is the way forward. The community we build around us—one that practices mutual aid, deep care, support, and emotional intimacy—enables us to achieve anything. Check out my new art piece! To navigate the crisis facing our planet, the growing wealth inequality, and the lack of safety, we must build strong networks rooted in our communities.

Human beings have been exploring their bodies since the beginning of time. The moment we discovered the capacity for self-pleasure, I’m certain it became a natural part of our experience. This new piece is a bold and unapologetic celebration of female pleasure. We live in a world where female pleasure has often been obscured, misrepresented, over-simplified, demonized, or even criminalized. The patriarchal, colonial view of femme bodies narrows the narrative, leaving little room for depictions of empowered women who confidently satisfy their own desires and embrace masturbation. Self pleasure is a source of empowerment.
